The Family History in Ireland

The Wynne family history in Ireland is centred around the old market town of Mallow, in County Cork. It is set on the Blackwater River and was famous for its spas, its clock house and the song 'The Rakes of Mallow.' (it should be playing in the background as you read this)

Mallow is now a fairly prosperous looking country town which seemed to me a little smaller than Mornington, with a main street set above the Blackwater River. Strangely enough, I felt quite at home there. It is not really a tourist-style town and accommodation is a bit limited.

You might prefer to stay in CORK, a large town on the coast, but I liked the idea of staying in the town where my ancestors came from, going to sleep and waking up with the smells and tastes of the air they tasted.

The instructions to finding the old Winn graves just out of Mallow (they're a bit hard to find) are on the MyFamily website in a PDF file available for family members to download. I wrote a POEM about finding the graves too.

You can read more about Mallow in the WYNNE section of the family history here.
